Top Chef starts tonight!

My favorite show starts tonight! This season of Top Chef will take place in another one of my favorite cities, New York City! I can't wait!

If you're a Top Chef geek like I am, here's a quiz to see how much you remember about the first four seasons.

I scored an 86% -- 6 out of 7 correct -- I didn't identify who made the deep fried oysters. The average score is 3.8 or 54%, so I guess I could consider myself a Top Chef geek.

I also just found out there's a Top Chef computer game. Sounds dangerous to me ... as if I have more time in my life to waste ... I'm gonna keep far, far away from that one...

I have been waiting - not so patiently - for the new season to begin! I'll be writing a round-up for it each week over at www.edibletv.net if you are interesting in sharing what you thought over there.

I heard a rumor that an episode of this season's Top Chef was filmed in Rochester. Have you heard anything about this?

Anonymous,
Nope. Haven't heard a thing. And it doesn't make sense -- why in the world would they leave NYC to go to Rochester? Not that there's anything wrong with Rochester but still...

I have heard this very same rumor and, if you watch the intro very closely, you will see the chefs lined up along the riverfront adjacent to the Blue Cross Arena. Or at least that's how it appears to me. The question is, if this is true, how on earth did they manage to keep this a secret? Anyways, looking forward to the Rochester episode...

A quick internet search found this blurb confirming that Rochester will indeed be the host of a Top Chef episode:

"As we learned during our visit with with the Foo Fighters last summer, Dave Grohl is no stranger to the kitchen. The Foos' frontman — and soon to be father of two — proudly displayed a secret recipe he called Dr. G's Strip Steak at a barbeque to celebrate the band's latest album, 2007's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. And now, EW.com hears, he'll make an appearance on Top Chef this season. The episode, titled "Foo Fighters' Thanksgiving," will find the remaining culinary contestants trying to impress the Grammy Award-winning rock band at a tour stop in Rochester, New York (restaurateur Grant Achatz, who was recently named 2008's Best Chef by the James Beard Foundation, serves as guest judge). It's scheduled to air Nov. 26...".

OK I went on YouTube and watched the intro in slow motion. I did see a shot that has arches in the background, like by the river, and another one that looks like the arena. Are those the ones you're talking about? But it doesn't make sense that TC would come to Rochester, because we're so far away from NYC. On the other hand, I've read that they had a hard time filming in NYC, because people were constantly trying to get a peek at who was left. Getting away to Rochester could have helped with that. But that would be right across the street from the D&C -- wouldn't someone have noticed? Hmmm ... If they came, please tell me that they didn't have the chefs do a spin on the "plate." Maybe they could have done something with the Dinosaur BBQ, which would be right near those arches ... they also have a location in NYC. If TC came to Rochester and I wasn't there, I will weep...

OK you posted before I did. You should be an investigative reporter. I think the Foo Fighters episode is next week! This calls for a post!
